Review collected by and hosted on G2.com. They offered no discount or coupon–something that nearly every other independent software company has been happy to do in the past, often without even asking. I emailed support (not my most diplomatic email, admittedly) and was coldly instructed to either purchase MAMP Pro 5 upgrade (which dissolves your v4 licenses) or downgrade to keep my license. If you want to upload more advanced sketches or want to develop new libraries, then you will require downloading and installing a specific application from the Arduino website. Furthermore, I had tremendous difficult even locating the v4 installer so that I could downgrade and in doing so, I lost all my settings and configured hosts. To upload the Arduino software to your Arduino board, you just need to connect the programmer to the USB port of your computer and then upload the sketch to your board. By default, the web server (Apache) starts on port 8888 and the database server (MySQL) starts on port 8889. The status bar in the upper right corner shows the startup status of the servers. Launch MAMP and click the Launch Servers button. There was no indication in the update dialogue that this required a new license, so when I installed the update, I was asked to enter a new license key. Once the installation is complete, you are ready to start your local servers. In the status display in the upper right corner, the launch status of the servers is displayed. Start MAMP and click on the Start Servers button. Unbeknownst to me, this was a paid update. After successful installation you can launch your local servers. I initially bought MAMP Pro 4 for ~$60-70 USD and when I opened the application one day, I was notified of the release of MAMP v5, so I clicked "Install Update". MAMP installs a local server environment on your Windows or macOS computer, and is commonly used to develop dynamic websites. You pay for x number of licenses which, to their credit, do not expire, BUT (and this is a big 'but'–and not in a good way) they make major releases every 2 years. The pricing structure doesn't make a lot of sense to me.
